ROLF HARRIS

He's painted the Queen of England, but in Australia we'll always know ROLF HARRIS as the lovable larrikin who sang the infectious Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport and discovered that a sheet of freshly painted hardboard made a wonderful sounding instrument he dubbed 'the Wobble Board'. As one of the world's most readily recognised Australians, he has enjoyed acclaim and enormous affection as a painter, television presenter and constant champion of children, animals and the arts. But music was always at the core of ROLF HARRIS' world

RUSSELL MORRIS

With his distinctive voice, finely crafted songs and compelling stage presence, Russell Morris is one of Australia's most enduring singers. A major pop star in the latter sixties, he went on to become one of the country's first singer songwriters and achieved great success in Australia during the seventies.

DRAGON

In commercial terms they were unstoppable, the medals couldn't be minted fast enough - Band Of the Year, Album Of the Year, Most Popular New Group. They collected a stack of Gold and Platinum record plaques, toured America twice and, inevitably, collapsed under their own awesome weight.

MAX MERRITT

A ceaseless crowd pleaser for more than fifty years, Max Merritt was a superstar in New Zealand before his fame spread to Australian shores. When Max Merritt & The Meteors crossed the Tasman at the end of 1964, the dance floors filled. By 1965 they were touring with The Rolling Stones and released a run of singles including Shake, I Can't Help Myself and Fannie Mae.

THE TRIFFIDS

The Triffids began with high school friends David McComb, Alsy MacDonald and Phil Kakulas making a noise in the garage. By 1983 their line-up included Martyn P Casey and Jill Birt, and The Triffids released their debut album Treeless Plain, which was met with unanimous critical acclaim. In early 1984 The Triffids made their first foray to London where they were quickly embraced by the UK music press.

JOHN LAWS
Lifetime Achievement Award

In addition to the five music inductees, ARIA is pleased to announce that legendary broadcaster and country music aficionado JOHN LAWS will receive an ARIA Lifetime Achievement Award. The ARIA Lifetime Achievement Award recognises a contribution, by an Australian, spanning at least 20 years and preferably an entire professional career. A recipient is not a musician but someone who has made a significant and profound contribution to Australian music and the Australian music industry.

HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CRITERIA

Hall of Fame inductees are selected by the ARIA Board after consultation with the Hall of Fame Advisory Committee. This Advisory Committee, comprising 23 music industry professionals, meet annually to prepare a shortlist of appropriate inductees for consideration by the ARIA Board.

Induction guidelines

The guidelines set out below are the principal parameters for induction.

The Hall of Fame recognises four categories of music - pop/rock, jazz, classical and country;
The nominees' careers must have commenced, and ideally achieved significant prominence, at least 20 years prior to the year of proposed induction;
Membership into the ARIA Hall of Fame is reserved exclusively for the creators of recorded music, namely the recording artists;
The nominees must be responsible for a significant body of recorded work;
The nominees work must have had a cultural impact within Australia and/or recognition within the world marketplace.
